It Hurts
to Fall on Your Rear
That’s true for people and guitars. This guitar appears to
have fallen straight onto the strap button, but at a slight
angle. You can see that the most visual damage is towards
the back of the guitar, and that’s where it had actually
broken loose from the tail block. The owner, Bill Zachry,
enjoys the instrument, but was not concerned that the
refinish be like new – saved lots of time on my part. Bill
is a composer and plays solo as well as with bands. Since
his primary concern was playing, I did what I call a
“structural refinish” – pieces are glued solid and the
finish is smoothed so as not to catch on clothes or body.
With the re-securing of the body and the tail block this
guitar should last for along time – hopefully without
another fall on its rear!
